Khan to face Frenchman Drilzane

Khan to face Frenchman Drilzane

Boxing super-star Amir Khan will face Frenchman Rachid Drilzane at London's ExCel Arena on 9 December 2006.

Khan will be celebrating his 20th birthday the day before the show, and says a perfect present will be a KO win over 28-year-old Drilzane.

Undefeated in nine professional fights so far, Khan is looking to make it a perfect 10 on Frank Warren's mega-show in the capital, and appears over eight rounds for the first time.

"I've had a look at Drilzane and he's not a bad fighter, but I won't let him ruin my birthday," said Khan.

"This year has been pretty special, and it would be great to finish it just the way I started it - with a first round knockout!"

In January in Nottingham, Khan stopped Vitali Martynov in less than two minutes, and has also recorded impressive stoppage victories over Ryan Barrett, Colin Blain and Jackson Williams.

Former European lightweight title contender Laszlo Komjathi is the only man to have taken him the distance in 2006.

"They always say a boxer's first 10 fights are about learning the ropes, and I feel ready to be let off the leash after this one," said Khan.

"I want to start winning titles as soon as possible, and hopefully I'll fight for my first one before too long in 2007."

Also on the card, Matt Skelton defends his Commonwealth heavyweight title against Audley Harrison, while WBO featherweight king Scott Harrison tackles Nicky Cook.
