Khan ready for WBA title fight on Saturday

Khan ready for WBA title fight on Saturday

Amir Khan is ready to face Andreas Kotelnik for the WBA world light-welterweight title on Saturday night July 18 in Manchester, MEN.

"It's going to be a skilful fight, more about technique, and I don't think it's going to finish early," Khan said.

"It could be a long fight and if there's going to be a stoppage it could happen late in the fight.

"I've done 12 rounds before and I felt strong after the fitness and strength conditioning I've done with my strength coach, which has worked for me.

"We sparred 12 rounds in LA and we know I've got the fitness in the tank. All I've got to do now is the right thing in the fight, not going all out in the first few rounds and instead picking the right shots, pacing myself and hopefully if it goes 12 rounds we know I'm fit and strong for it."

Khan, who is based in Los Angeles with trainer Freddie Roach, added: "I've never trained so hard. With every fight I'm getting better and better and I'm going into a different weight category to fight for a world title.

Star attraction

"That has only made me train harder and motivate me more.

"Freddie and I are very confident for this fight. I think his style is made for mine and hopefully we're going to come out as the winners."

Despite being the champion, Kotelnik is the underdog with bookmakers going into the fight, and he is well aware that Khan is the star attraction.

"Amir is a very famous boxer, not just in England but also over the world," he said.

"If I win this fight it will open the road to further fights, especially in America."
